The City (Beijing)

As the capital city of China , Beijing is the national center of politics and culture, as well as a transportation hub both nationally and internationally. It covers an area of 16,808 square kilometers with a population of about 13 million.

Beijing is a historical city, established more than 3000 years ago. It was the capital city for five dynasties over the last seven centuries. The long and brilliant history left Beijing countless historical attractions, including the famous Forbidden City, the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven , the Summer Palace , the Ming Tombs, etc.

Beijing is also a lively city with colorful culture and fascinating traditions. Here one can easily follow the tracks of history and people's lives, from historical Beijing-style lanes (Hutong) to ultra-modern business districts, from traditional antiques and silk markets to the fashionable shopping malls, and from colorful and delicate Peking Opera to the wildest Rock-n-Roll.

Beijing is a modern city, too. On the streets of Beijing , high-rise buildings, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, comprehensive and busy traffic networks keep telling you the stories of its modern achievements. Today, Beijing is striving to prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games. Conference Venue   (how to get there)

The Beijing International Convention Center (BICC) is located at Asian Games Village , 20 km from Beijing Capital Airport , 9 km from Tian'anmen Square (city centre). The BICC is one of the largest facilities specifically designed for conferences and exhibitions in China . BICC consists of an eight-floor building covering an area of about 68800 square meters. It has 50 conference halls and meeting rooms equipped to serve a wide variety of purposes, I as well as indoor exhibition halls accommodating as many as 300 international standard exhibition booths and dozens of offices. The Conference Building also has a business centre, an audiovisual studio, a post office, an information counter, spacious registration hall, public and VIP lounges and bars located on each floor. BICC specializes in staging national and international conferences, exhibitions and other large events. The conference halls are well equipped with advanced simultaneous language translation system, first-rate acoustic apparatus, a live TV relay system, inner and outer communication system, and a video conference system. BICC enjoys a good reputation for its first-class facilities and service.

  

Congress Language
The official language of the Congress is English.

Visa
All foreign visitors entering China must have a valid passport and a visa. Upon receiving the registration form and the payment, the Local Organizing Committee will send the official invitation letter to the registered participant. With the invitation letter, the participants may apply for an entry visa at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate General in his/her country.

Time Zone
China Time is 8 hours ahead of GMT.

Currency
The currency used in China is Renminbi Yuan (RMB £¤). The exchange rate between USD and RMB at present is about 1:7.7. Credit cards such as Visa, American Express and Master Card are acceptable at hotels, large restaurants and shopping centers.

Electricity & Adaptor
The electrical voltage in China is 220V. Most hotels provide 110V outlets for electric razors. The adaptor styles are shown below.

The conference organizers cannot accept liability for personal injuries sustained, or for loss of, or damage to, property belonging to conference participants or their accompanying persons, either during or as a result of the Conference. Please check the validity of your own insurance.

Weather
Beijing is located in the temperate zone and enjoys a continental monsoon climate. The average temperature in Beijing in July is 25 -35 ¡æ.
