ISPRS Workshop on Updating Geo-spatial Databases with Imagery & the 5th ISPRS Workshop on DMGIS was held with success on 28-29 August 2007 in Urumqi, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China.

Mr. Song Chaozhi, Deputy Director General, State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping of China, Mr. Palhahti Kelim, Vice President, Xinjiang Association for Science and Technology and Mr. Li Quanzhan, Director General, Surveying and Mapping Bureau of Xingjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, attended the opening ceremony and delivered welcome speeches. Invited speakers from home and abroad included Prof. Li Deren, Prof. Zhang Zuxun, Prof. Ian Dowman, President of ISPRS, Prof. Orhan Altan, Secretary General of ISPRS, Prof. John Trinder, First Vice President of ISPRS, Prof. Chen Jun, Congress Director of ISPRS, Prof. Gottfried Konecny and Prof. Lawrence Fritz, Former Presidents of ISPRS, and some ISPRS Technical Commission Presidents and Working Group Chairs and Co-chairs. A Special Session was organized on the Workshop in celebration of the 80th birthday of Dr. Sherman Wu.

103 registered participants from 13 countries and regions attended the Workshop and 38 presentations were programmed. The Workshop was jointly organized by ISPRS WG IV/1, WG IV/3, WG VII/4, WG VII/5, WG VII/6 and WG II/IV, and supported by National Geomatics Center of China, Surveying and Mapping Bureau of Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region, National Natural Science Foundation of China and ESRI China (Beijing) Limited.
